The Story Behind Why27
It all started with a pencil, two little girls, and a lot of imagination.
WHY27 was born somewhere between motherhood, creativity and the wonderfully unpredictable worlds children invent every day.
I’m Ale, the illustrator behind WHY27. Every character you see here begins by hand on my iPad — no AI, no shortcuts. Just a pencil, an idea, and usually a little inspiration from the two girls who have completely changed the way I see the world.
Because in their world, bears can skate, geese can surf, capybaras can ride scooters and absolutely anything is possible.
And I think their walls should feel the same way.
That’s why I create artwork that feels playful without being childish, full of personality without taking over the room, and special enough to grow alongside them.
More than something for their walls.
I want each WHY27 character to feel like the beginning of a story.
A print might remind them of something they love, make them laugh, spark an imaginary adventure or simply become their character — the one they point to every morning.
Everything is created with the same intention: to make children's spaces feel a little more joyful, imaginative and completely their own.
Why 27?
Because some numbers are more than numbers.
27 has always been part of my story — and when it was time to give this little universe a name, nothing else felt right.
So WHY27 became home to all these wonderfully weird little characters.
Hand-drawn for little people with big imaginations.
With love,
Ale
